bridesquilt

The Bride’s Quilt - Some experience

My original design is sure to become a family heirloom. Let me show you the fastest and most accurate methods for making these blocks. There is a lot of sewing involved in this quilt but easy enough for quilters with some experience.

Argylequilt

doublediamondquilt

60 Degree Quilts - Double Diamond - some experience

This is one of those quilts that look a great deal harder than it actually is. There are many seams but the accuracy can be attained after learning just a few tricks. Several variations of this particular design will be discussed in the workshop. Although my quilt is in the darker fabrics, you many consider using 1930’s fabrics with a cream background or perhaps colours of the sea.

you'vegotmail

You’ve Got Mail! - some experience

When I first started working with 1 1/2” squares, she didn’t realize how addictive it would become! This is one of those “selfish” workshops where the teacher wants her students to become just as addicted!! Students will be working with 1 1/2” cut squares and strips to create one of many designs presented and patterns given in this workshop. Students will be working with designs created from scrappy 9-patch Postage Stamp blocks.

stringsattached

There Are Strings Attached! - all skill levels

String quilts are a fun and easy way to use up scraps of fabric in a new “old fashioned” way. Several different designs to be made with string blocks by changing the size of the block and the settings will be handed out in class so students have many options to make their quilt unique. This style of quilt makes a great group project as blocks are trimmed to size after sewing. I have had the pleasure of providing this workshop to groups who have donated their finished quilts to Quilts of Valor.

logcabinchevron

Log Cabin Chevron Quilt - all skill levels

the Log Cabin Chevron quilt made in this workshop is a replica of a quilt made in the late 1800’s. the original quilt was mad with silks but we will be using a variety of reproduction cotton fabrics to get a similar look. Colour theory for antique reproduction will also be taught. If you don’t like the antique palette, feel free to make a more modern version.

Antique Spider Web - all skill levels

This is a very antique looking quilt made with many homespun plaid and striped fabrics. Unlike the antique spider web quilts that were foundation pieced, this one is strip pieced. Students will learn the best way of dealing with multiple intersections and cutting 60 degree angles with a regular ruler. A pattern for a second quilt that uses scraps from the spider web is included in the workshop (pictured to the right).

This course is designed for quilters with some experience and a “stash” that would like to make their colour choices for their quilts unique and interesting. In this class, students will make three or more Colour Study Boards with colour palettes based on everyday objects found in the home.
